Today’s guest post from Endri over at Trip and Travel Blog shares some great ideas for how to save on your next holiday. We all are looking for ways to wring as many dollars/bhat/pesos from every experience. These 4 easy to apply tips can keep a few more dollars in your pocket when you plan your next experience away.
I enjoy spending my vacations away from home like most people, but most of the times I can’t afford traveling because of the high budget required. However, I found a way to save money during my trips and want to share my tips with you. While reading keep in mind that this is not about sacrificing the joy of the trip but about intelligently managing your expenses during your travels in order to have the best possible time at the smallest possible prices.
Frugal traveling is about correct and smart money management.
- Plan Ahead – For starters, when planning to head to the desired country/city by plane always keep in mind that flights cost less during the middle of the week. Many people overlook this, but sometimes traveling on a Wednesday can save you quite a bit. While middle of the week is the cheapest, weekends are the most expensive, sometimes even double the normal ticket cost.
- Stay well informed - In addition to flight schedules, it would be to your advantage to check whether the airline offers complimentary meals. Some of them charge ridiculous prices for the food so it might be wise to carry some with you from home or buy it before boarding. For long travels it’s also a good idea to carry headphones with you, since many companies charge you for these as well.
- Using the Internet to assist you in your decisions Using online search engines to find out about offers, discounts, hostels/hotels, restaurants and other locations can save you both a lot of time and money. There are many travel related sites that can do that for you and even provide you with enough information to compare and choose rationally. Remember, if you are traveling light, hostels might be more favourable to you than hotels both in pricing and services involved.
- Make the most out of what is offered to you Finally, to help you save money, take advantage of your hotel’s facilities to the fullest. Most rooms come with fridges so using them to store a few snacks and fruits can save you from wasting a bunch of money in minibars due to late night cravings. Same goes for baths, pools, massage rooms, arcade rooms and others. Use them all…you paid for the privledge.
Every day presents new opportunities, the way we exploit them determines whether we can maintain our current lifestyle and in turn be able to create even more opportunities, taking them and turning them into savings for future travels.
